STEVEN is a documentary photographer based in Leigh-on-sea, Essex, shooting digital and film

I shoot weddings/engagements, portraits/lifestyle, and events. I also offer my services to bands and musicians (portraits, press shots, gigs), and small businesses (product or promo shots). My natural style is documentary/reportage; I strive to capture moments in a relaxed and intimate way. When shooting weddings I do my best to be invisible for most of the day, producing a set of photographs which tell the whole story of your special day without you realising that I’m there. You can hire me for any part of your wedding day from morning preparations to the evening do (and everything else in between).

I still shoot film as well as digital as I think it's hard to beat the look of medium format film; in my opinion it has a magical quality which modern DSLRs simply cannot replicate. My medium format camera of choice is the Mamiya RB67 - the workhorse of professional photographers prior to the digital age. It has no built in light meter and is completely manual so not really ideal for the fast-pace of modern wedding photography but I do occasionally bring it along for fun. I also shoot 35mm film and for that I use either the beautifully simple Pentax K1000, or the slightly more hi-tech Canon AE-1 Program. I pretty much only shoot Kodak Portra 400 film for colour, and Kodak Tri-X 400 or T-Max 400 for black & white.

My main personal project is making an early 21st century photographic document of my home town of Southend-on-sea (and occasionally beyond) from a somewhat detached perspective, through minimal, sometimes bleak and mostly peopleless suburban landscapes and frank architectural studies. Inspired by the legendary New Topographics exhibition of the mid-1970s, the project is also a search for beauty in the mundane, a celebration of the banal and the art of everyday life.

Feel free to contact me for commissions or collaborations of any kind - I'm always happy to meet potential clients in person to discuss your requirements and to make sure we're a good fit.

I'm only truly happy when I have a camera in my hands.

You can book me to capture any part of your wedding day from bridal preparations in the morning to the last guests leaving the reception in the evening. My full-day package includes 8 hours of coverage and starts at £700, but you can also book me for a half day, just the bride/groom preparations, or by the hour for however long you need. I also offer a ‘Try Before You Buy’ deal for couples; book me for a 1 hour location shoot at £100 and if you come back and book me for your wedding within 12 months I’ll take £50 off the price of your package.

I can shoot portrait sessions at your home, my home, or at an agreed outdoor location, all charged at an hourly rate of £100 per hour with 20 images per hour guaranteed minimum. I also offer 30 minute mini-sessions within Southend, Rochford, and Castlepoint, charged at £75 with 10 digital images guaranteed.

You can hire  me by the hour to capture anything you like; family gatherings, parties, engagements, maternity, or just 'a day in the life'. Discreet documentary style is my favourite way of shooting and I love capturing fleeting moments in a natural way.
